It's Shiny!
I'm the queen of customization -- when it comes to stuff I have actual control over, like the skin for my Kindle or my sparkly iPhone case. But I thought I was going to be stuck with a blog that looked a lot like everyone else's, since what I know about web design can fit in a thimble.
Luckily, it was Indie Author Services to the rescue! They're the same talented people who did the cover for Alien Encounter, and it turns out they're just about to start offering custom Blogger templates and complete website design packages geared to authors. I don't think the services are available on their website yet, but you can always ask.
I wanted an outer space theme since my first book has a very hot alien in it, and I've always been sort of a space-travel geek anyway. It's great when a concept in your mind can turn into reality (especially if the thought of doing much more than creating a post gives you a panic attack). Maybe someday I'll have a full-blown website, but for now my own little personalized corner of Blogger suits me very well.

Moving to Blogger
Well, I started out with Wordpress, but I've had a lot of people tell me that Blogger is better for commenting and also for SEO, so I'm switching over. Luckily, I didn't have much content on Wordpress -- as in, nothing except one introductory post, so it wasn't as if I had much to lose. I've also heard it's easier to customize your blog on Blogger, so we'll see how that goes.
